Arms imports

The volume of major weapons a country imports, in SIPRI's trend-indicator values.

Arms imports are the deliveries of major conventional weapons, such as aircraft, ships, tanks, missiles and artillery, that a country received in a year. The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) values them in its trend-indicator value, a measure of military capability based on production costs rather than the price paid, in constant 1990 US dollars, so that volumes can be compared across years and countries. Small arms are not included. Deliveries are lumpy, so single years jump. The World Bank republishes the figures.

About the author

Hello there, I’m Klaus Jürgen Folz. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil, and I work in Austria as a lead Python and Power BI developer. I built Data Mechanics because good decisions start with facts. Public data is often scattered, hard to find or locked behind paywalls, and too much of what we read about the world is biased. Here, every number is shown as it was published, next to its source, so anyone can check it, compare countries and leaders, and draw their own conclusions.
