Child mortality
Deaths before age five, per 1,000 live births.
The under-five mortality rate is the probability that a newborn baby dies before turning five, per 1,000 live births, if the death rates of that year held. The UN Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation (UNICEF, the WHO, the World Bank and the UN Population Division) produces the estimates from surveys, censuses and vital registration, and the World Bank republishes them.
