Food production

How much food a country produces, as an index where 2014 to 2016 is 100.

The food production index measures the volume of food a country produces, compared with the average of 2014 to 2016, which is set to 100. It covers crops and animals that people can eat, so coffee and tea are left out because they have no nutritional value. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) computes it with international prices as weights, and the World Bank republishes it. It shows how fast production grew in each country, not how much it produces compared with others.

About the author

Hello there, I’m Klaus Jürgen Folz. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil, and I work in Austria as a lead Python and Power BI developer. I built Data Mechanics because good decisions start with facts. Public data is often scattered, hard to find or locked behind paywalls, and too much of what we read about the world is biased. Here, every number is shown as it was published, next to its source, so anyone can check it, compare countries and leaders, and draw their own conclusions.
