Adult mortality

Of 1,000 people aged 15, how many would die before 60 at this year's death rates.

The adult mortality rate is the probability that a 15-year-old dies before turning 60, per 1,000, if the death rates of that year held. It captures deaths in working age, from illness, accidents and violence, which child mortality and life expectancy at birth blur. Men die younger than women almost everywhere. The UN Population Division estimates the rates in its World Population Prospects, and the World Bank republishes them.

About the author

Hello there, I’m Klaus Jürgen Folz. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil, and I work in Austria as a lead Python and Power BI developer. I built Data Mechanics because good decisions start with facts. Public data is often scattered, hard to find or locked behind paywalls, and too much of what we read about the world is biased. Here, every number is shown as it was published, next to its source, so anyone can check it, compare countries and leaders, and draw their own conclusions.
