Gender wage gap
How much less women earn than men on average, as a share of men's earnings.
The gender wage gap is the difference between men's and women's average hourly earnings, as a share of men's earnings. A positive gap means men earn more; a negative one means women do. It is unadjusted: it does not account for education, experience or the kind of job, so it reflects both unequal pay for similar work and the different jobs men and women hold. It covers employees only, not the self-employed. The International Labour Organization compiles it from national surveys, which differ, so compare countries with care. Our World in Data leaves out the figures the ILO flags as unreliable.
