Political corruption index (V-Dem)
How far leaders and officials take bribes and steal public money, from 0 (least corrupt) to 1 (most corrupt).
The V-Dem political corruption index measures how far a country's government, parliament, courts and public officials take bribes or steal public money, and how far corruption shapes how laws are made and carried out. It runs from 0 (least corrupt) to 1 (most corrupt) and is made up of four sub-indices: executive, legislative, judicial and public sector corruption. Like the other V-Dem indices, it combines the ratings of thousands of country experts through a statistical model. It is about bribery and theft at high levels, not the corruption people meet in daily life. Our World in Data republishes the central estimates.
