Water stress
How much of a country's renewable fresh water is withdrawn each year.
Water stress is the fresh water withdrawn by farms, industry and households in a year as a share of the renewable fresh water available, after the flows that nature needs are set aside. Above 25% a country is under water stress by the UN's definition; above 100% it uses more than renews, drawing down groundwater or desalinating. The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) compiles it in its AQUASTAT database for the UN's water goal, and the World Bank republishes it.
