Minimum wage

The legal monthly minimum wage, in dollars that buy the same everywhere and in US dollars.

This is the statutory gross monthly minimum wage, the lowest pay the law allows for a full month of work, as it stood at the end of each year. The first measure converts it to international dollars at purchasing power parity, so it compares what the wage buys at home; the second converts it at the exchange rate. Where several minimum wages exist, the ILO takes the national one or the rate for unskilled workers. Countries that set wages by collective agreement instead, such as Austria, Italy and the Nordic countries, have none. The International Labour Organization (ILO) compiles the figures from national laws and labour ministries in its ILOSTAT database.

About the author

Hello there, I’m Klaus Jürgen Folz. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) in Brazil, and I work in Austria as a lead Python and Power BI developer. I built Data Mechanics because good decisions start with facts. Public data is often scattered, hard to find or locked behind paywalls, and too much of what we read about the world is biased. Here, every number is shown as it was published, next to its source, so anyone can check it, compare countries and leaders, and draw their own conclusions.
